University of Minnesota Professor John Wright spoke “off the cuff” at the Board of Regents meeting when faculty and students attending the meeting demanded that he be heard. The call “let John Wright speak,” was precipitated by a regent claiming that “other than housing,” there was no racism at the University of Minnesota in the 1930s. The protesters initially received threats from the regents that campus police would be called. They offered those attending ten minutes to speak. Professor Wright told the story of his own family’s involvement at the University of Minnesota and the long history of racism there. These remarks were reprinted in the Minnesota Daily and tweeted out to thousands of people.
