Student Health Services provided physical examinations for all incoming students. Registrar West requested information from Dr. Ruth Boynton about the enrollments of Jews and African Americans over a three-year period derived from their physicals. This information went directly to President Coffman, who constantly monitored the number of Jewish and African American students and their housing needs. The monitoring contributed to the creation of a campus racial hierarchy.
