This Minnesota Daily article reported on the efforts of two regents to conduct their own research and challenge the findings of the Task Force on Building Names and Institutional History. These two regents were the most aggressive in their attack on faculty members’ scholarship. However, they never discussed the research directly with them. Daily journalists Austen Macalus and Jake Steinberg contacted American historians at the University of Michigan and New York University to ask them about the regents’ claims. These scholars noted that reading documents outside of multiple historical contexts lacked knowledge of how history is written.
